This weekend is the Speedo Big Triathlon Nottingham. For the last 3 months I’ve been part of a team preparing for the for this event. Most of us have never done a triathlon before, but we were all inspired to compete, to show our support for the Climb Any Mountain charity.

The other weekend part of the team went out to Heron Lake to try our first open water swim in wetsuits. It was a great session and great preparation for the big race.

THE CAUSE

Climb Any Mountain is a not-for-profit, voluntary organization working towards transforming the living conditions for people with learning disabilities and mental illnesses in South Africa. We want to see people with intellectual disabilities and mental illnesses across South Africa have a voice in the decisions which are made about their living situations and their lives.

THE EVENT

On the May 26 a crew of merry men and women will be travelling to Nottingham to brave the challenge of completing their first-ever triathlon!  It’s a ‘Sprint Triathlon’ – the components are a 750m swim, a 20km bike ride and a 5km run.

So far, Daniel, Neil, Kim, Jon (aka Big O YES Man!), Rich, Steve, Barbara, Chloe, and Siobhan have accepted the challenge.

The group will be raising money for Climb Any Mountain, where the proceeds will go 50% towards Dolphin’s Acre Residential Care Facility in South Africa, and 50% towards developing the business case for the first-of-its-kind supported community care home for people with mental illness and learning disability in South Africa.
