When planning for a new trip it’s always useful to have a base of operations. It allows you to collate all your information in one place for easy access when planning.

After a few months in limbo I’ve finally found my new base of operations. I moved into my new flat on the weekend and have already started to set myself up for some serious planning. It was with great excitement I headed off to check out Stanfords map (http://www.stanfords.co.uk/) store in central London on Monday evening. A little sad I know, but Stanfords is know as map heaven to those who research expeditions. I went into buy one Central Asia map and left with three!!

As you can see from the photo’s they are now proudly attached to my wall, reminding my on a daily basis of my trip to come. It also clearly shows just how big a journey I have in front of me (and hopefully some other willing souls). Central Asia is huge!!

Night of Adventure

On Monday evening was lucky enough to attend a Night of Adventure. The evening consisted of 11 adventurers speaking about their amazing exploits, all in aid of the amazing charity Hope and Homes for Children. What made the evening unique is that each adventurer gets only 20 seconds to speak about 20 slides. 400 seconds of adventure!! It was a great night out for a great cause.

Banff Mountain Film Festival

Tuesday nights fun was the world tour of the Banff Mountain Film Festival. I’d heard great things about this evening and I wasn’t disappointed. There were a range of films showcasing both the crazy, and brave, of the adventure world. The film makers have done a fabulous job. If you get the chance, check it out. I’d recommend it. Watch the promo video. It’ll blow you away.

Yes Man Challenge – Stand Up Paddleboarding

This Sunday sees my first Yes Man Challenge. Will has challenged me to Stand Up Paddleboarding on the Thames in the middle of winter. It promises to be a fun and potentially very chilly day out. There are spaces available if anybody is daft enough to join us.

Wish us luck!!
